Siena Women's Tennis continued its strong start to the fall season, dominating Rider 6-1 in the MAAC opener in New Jersey. Sophomore Mitsuki Fukamachi, freshman Rina Sakai and junior Erika Reagan each swept their singles matches 6-0, 6-0 for the Saints who have captured all but two points in improving to 3-0 for the fall.
"Today's performance was our first step towards our goal of qualifying for the MAAC Championships," said Fukamachi. "Congratulations and good job to my teammates. Let's keep it rolling!"
Siena won five of the six singles points in impressive fashion with Fukamachi (No. 2 singles), Sakai (No. 3) and Reagan (No. 5) all posting unblemished results. Junior Allysa Singh was nearly perfect as well, posting a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles for the Saints which have won 31 of the 39 singles matches they've played so far this season.
Alison Noll captured Rider's only point, defeating sophomore Ali Garrity 6-1, 3-6, 10-6 at top singles. The Broncs forfeited both the No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles matchups. The Saints captured the doubles point, with Garrity and Fukamachi winning 8-3 and Singh and Sakai dominating to an 8-1 victory.
The Saints return to the courts Saturday when they host the Siena Doubles Festival at Central Park in Schenectady.
