LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - You could not have scripted a much better Alumni Day for the Siena Women's Basketball program. Senior captain Tehresa Coles scored her 1,000th career point and freshman forward Margot Hetzke added her fourth double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds on her 19th birthday as the Saints posted their ninth win in 12 games with a 59-51 triumph over Manhattan at the ARC.

The local product from Loudonville who starred at nearby Colonie High, Coles becomes the 26th player in Siena (12-7, 5-5) Women's Basketball history to eclipse 1,000 career points. She both reached and then surpassed the milestone by sinking two key free throws with 50.3 seconds remaining to seal the win in front of five fellow 1,000 point scorers who comprised the more than two dozen alumni in attendance.

Coles joined Hetzke in finishing with 18 points and added five rebounds and four assists for the Saints which secured their first conference home victory.

Siena led for all but 25 seconds, but could never fully put away Manhattan (2-16, 1-8) until the end. The Jaspers shot just 32.1% (9-28) on two-point attempts, but went 8-15 from three-point range and were aided by 25 Siena turnovers.

Nonetheless Siena led by as many as nine points in the opening stanza and 30-23 break, thanks in large part to a 10-point first half performance from Symone Kelly. The sophomore reserve gave the Saints a huge lift off the bench after sophomore captain Meghan Donohue departed for good after playing just six minutes due to illness.

Siena would all but put things away with an 8-0 run to take a 51-37 lead with 7:15 to play. Hetzke scored six points during the decisive run for the Saints which have won seven of eight overall against Manhattan and improved to 17-3 all-time at the ARC against the Jaspers.

Rebounding proved to be a major difference in the game as the Saints grabbed more offensive rebounds (21) than Manhattan had total rebounds (19) in out-rebounding the Jaspers by 22. As a result, the Saints held a 21-6 edge in second chance points in out-rebounding their opponent for the 21st straight game dating back to last season.

Taylor Williams and Nyasha Irizarry each sank four of Manhattan's eight three-pointers. Williams scored a career-high 16 points for a second straight game, while Irizarry added 13 points and four steals for the Jaspers which have lost five straight.

Siena continues its three-game homestand Wednesday with its Fifth Annual BlueShield of Northeastern New York "Kid's Day" Game. Siena hosts Rider at 11 a.m. in a game that will once again be televised throughout New York on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and is expected to draw nearly 2,000 local schoolchildren to the ARC from 10 Capital Region area schools.
