Fabiana Citro scored twice to lead Siena Field Hockey past Sacred Heart in their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener by a final score of 4-2. Ashley Dona and Molly Hagen also added tallies for the Saints. Goalkeeper Mary Drabich made seven saves.
Siena (2-9,1-0) got on the board (12') when Hagen connected on a pass from Bleier and she found the back of the net. Fabiana Citro got a chance to score on a penalty shot (24') and made the best of the opportunity to put the Saints up 2-0 going into the intermission.
Following halftime, the Pioneers would respond. Lauren Lawson scored the first goal on the afternoon for Sacred Heart on a pass from Rachel Claroni (38').
The Saints kept on attacking with their lead. Aubrie Bleier was in the action again when she directed a pass toward Ashley Dona and she scored her second goal of the 2015-16 season.
The Pioneers would add one more goal in the game when Danielle Gallagher attacked the goal, took a shot, got her own rebound and put home the goal.
But Siena wasn't done yet. Citro added her second goal of the game when she powered into the circle, took a long shot and scored.
Sacred Heart held the slight edge in shots (19-18) while also holding a 5-4 advantage in corners. The Saints led in the save category for the match, besting the Pioneers 7-6.
Siena returns to action Fri. Oct. 16 when they return home to Siena Turf Field to battle MAAC foe Bryant at 3 p.m.
