Saints Stun Hawks in Final Seconds

Oct. 30, 2015

Final Stats

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y.-Fabiana Citro's penalty stroke that found the back of the net with 2.9 seconds left in regulation was the difference as Siena Field Hockey stunned first-place Monmouth, 1-0, which entered the game with a 4-0 conference record.

With the victory, Siena has tied for both its most overall and conference wins since 2002. The win also marked the second year in a row in which the Saints defeated the first place team in the MAAC on the final weekend of the regular season.

Monmouth outshot Siena 9-4 and held a 10-2 advantage in corners. Citro led the Saints with two shots, including the tally that put Siena in front. Danielle DeGroot and Molly Hagen also recorded shots in the game.

With 2.9 seconds on the clock, Molly Hagen was taken down in the circle when Siena was awarded a penalty stroke. Citro took the honors for the Saints and she scored her fourth goal of the season to put the Saints on top.

Mary Drabich made four saves on the afternoon for the Saints as they held a 4-0 advantage in that category.

Siena (4-11, 3-2) closes out their regular season Sun. Nov. 1 when they host Rider at noon. Prior to the game, the team will honor its four seniors in a pregame ceremony.
