Siena suffered its second straight MAAC volleyball loss Sunday, dropping a 3-1 (25-15, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-15) decision at Iona. The Saints played without the MAAC's kills leader Briana Flagg, who injured her leg diving for a ball in the third set of Saturday's five-set loss to Manhattan.

Siena falls into a three-way tie with Rider and Marist atop the MAAC standings. The Saints own the head-to-head tiebreaker with both schools currently, but close the season at Marist on November 14.

Before Flagg went down Saturday, the Saints had won six straight matches and 12 consecutive sets. Siena lost its 2-0 lead at Manhattan, and fell to the Gaels after dominating the first meeting in an easy 3-0 sweep on Opening Day in Loudonville September 19.

Sonja Vasovic led all players with 13 kills for the Saints, and Haley Howell had another double-double with 39 assists and 12 digs. Darby Taylor and Christina Monroe each had 11 kills, more than any player for Iona. Taylor added a career-high 20 digs, playing throughout the rotation with Flagg sidelined.

The Saints held a 53-50 edge in kills and a 77-75 advantage in digs, but Iona took advantage of 31 Siena attack errors and out-blocked the Saints 13-7.

Claire Archibald and Taylor Bannister each had 10 kills for Iona which kept its MAAC Tournament hopes alive with the win.

The lone bright spot in the match for Siena came in the third set when Bobbi Lin Kalama served the final six points of the set to give the Saints a 25-23 win that extended the match.

Siena returns home next weekend to host Canisius and Niagara before ending regular-season play with road matches and Fairfield and Marist.
