Final Results
It was a photo finish in the 400 Yard Medley Relay between Maggie Davenport and Katelyn Coleman of LIU Brooklyn, but it was Davenport who touched first in the final event of the afternoon to give the Saints a 143-142 victory over the Blackbirds.
Siena captured three events in the meet, including the relay that iced the win for the Saints. Senior Emily Carideo took the top spot in the 1000 Free with a time 11:03.90. Siena then followed that win with another win when Emma Rupert finished first in the 200 Free in a time of 2:00.09.
After the Saints won two straight events, LIU Brooklyn would respond. The Blackbirds would capture the next nine individual events, not including the diving. LIU Brooklyn did not have any divers on their roster.
In the diving portion of the competition, Hailey Beers finished first in both the 1 and 3 Meter events, scoring a 219.60 in the 1M and 245.60 in the 3M to help Siena grab hold of 18 points to help the Saints to victory.
Siena needed to win the final relay to win the meet and they did just that when the team of Francesca Tinucci, Maggie Fletcher, Carideo and Davenport were neck and neck with the team of Aleksandra Dziewa, Nathalie Meyers, Briana Vega and Coleman and it came down to about a arms-length and the Saints came out on top to capture the meet in dramatic fashion. The winning team took the top spot in a time of 3:41.38 while the second place team finished with a time of 3:41.77.
Siena handed LIU Brooklyn their first loss of the season.
The Saints will look to carry the momentum of this dramatic win in their next meet when they travel to the Bronx where they will be competing against MAAC schools Manhattan and Monmouth and this very same LIU Brooklyn team on Nov. 21. The meet is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
