Hofstra improved to 4-0 on the season and handed the Siena women their third straight loss with a tight 4-3 win Sunday night on Long Island. The Saints won the doubles point, but the Pride rallied to take four of six singles contests, two in a third set super tiebreaker.
The match turned at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Sarah Bowen edged reigning MAAC Player of the Week Ali Garrity 5-7, 6-2 and 10-7 at top singles and Carmen Pestano defeated Mitsuki Fukamachi 6-2, 4-6 and 10-7 at No. 3.
Allysa Singh rolled past Giulia Leone 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and Julia Dunbar topped Bianca Posa 6-3 and 6-2 at No. 6 singles for Siena's two singles points.
Dunbar also teamed with Rina Sakai for a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and Garrity and Fukamacho defeated Bowen and Pestano 6-3 at top doubles.
The women will look to get back on track when MAAC play resumes Friday night at the Tri City Tennis Club against Manhattan.
