Saints Come Up Short on Senior Day

Feb. 21, 2015

Final Stats

RaShawn Stores scored all 15 of his points in the second half including a corner three with 18 seconds left that iced an 80-74 Manhattan win over Siena on Senior Night at Times Union Center. Rob Poole scored a game-high 21 points in his final regular-season home contest.

"We are fighting our butts off," Siena coach Jimmy Patsos said. "We are trying hard. We are right there. We just need one or two guys to get a little hot."

A Canisius win earlier in the day had already relegated Siena to the First Round of the MAAC Championship. Manhattan locked up a First Round bye with the win.

Ryan Oliver made two free throws to cut the Manhattan lead to 75-72 with 48 seconds left, and Patsos elected not to foul with a 12 second differential between the game and shot clock. Manhattan used most of that time and Emmy Angujar drove hard to the basket drawing two Siena defenders before kicking the ball to a wide-open Stores in the corner.

Andujar had 17 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, leading Manhattan to its first win over Siena at Times Union Center in its last 11 tries.

Siena never led and trailed by 12 points in both halves, but they never went away either.

Poole and Hymes scored the final 10 points of the first half to bring the Saints within 35-33 at the break. Siena was down by 10 with 2:48 left, but Poole hit a three and Javion Ogunyemi converted a three-point play on back-to-back trips to set up the exciting finish.

Ogunyemi made 8-9 field goals and scored a career-high 18 points. Classmate Lavon Long had a nice bounce back game with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes before fouling out. Both players are part of an exciting future for the Saints.

But this game was about the seniors. In the end Manhattan's two guards had the last laugh.

Poole and Evan Hymes have now combined to score 2,754 career points - the seventh most for any two teammates in program history. Poole also moved into the top-10 on Siena's all-time scoring list Saturday night.

Siena has a five-day break before traveling to face Quinnipiac Friday night on ESPNU. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. in a game that could impact the final conference standings.
