LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Freshman forward Margot Hetzke scored all 20 of her points in the second half including the Saints' final 10 of the game as Siena Women's Basketball gutted out a 58-54 win at the ARC in sweeping the regular season from Canisius. With the win, Siena's magic number to clinch the No. 5 seed and final MAAC Tournament First Round bye is one.

Senior captain Tehresa Coles added 19 points, seven rebounds and tied her career-high of six steals for an eighth time for Siena (17-11, 10-9) which equaled the program's most wins in a dozen years. Siena would wrap up the 5-seed with a win over Saint Peter's in the regular season finale Sunday, or potentially as early as tomorrow should Niagara lose at Iona. The Saints can now finish no lower than sixth.

Hetzke was a beast down the stretch, reclaiming the lead on three separate occasions for the Saints and her layup with 1:23 remaining would put Siena back on top for good. Canisius (10-19, 8-12) had a chance to win or tie it in the waning seconds, but Coles tied up the Griffs' Kayla Hoohuli with 10.2 seconds to go. The possession arrow favored the Saints and Hetzke hit the final two free throws to ice it.

Hetzke shot 7-12 from the field in the second half and finished with eight rebounds for the game after going scoreless with just two rebounds in the first half. Coles, who is averaging 21.8 points over her last four games against Canisius, went a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe for Siena which shot 17-20 (85%) overall. The Golden Griffins shot just 6-11 from the line.

Siena had to shake off a slow start in which they missed their first 13 shots and were held without a field goal for the first 8:23 as Canisius opened the game with an 11-1 lead. But the Saints would respond with their first of two separate 11-0 runs to claim their first advantage as they held Canisius scoreless for 5:46.

It would be a back and forth affair thereafter with the Golden Griffins taking a 24-23 lead at the break. Siena shot just 23.1% (6-26) over the first 20 minutes, but were able to stay close as they scored 12 of their points off 13 first half Canisius turnovers.

Siena came out strong to start the second half and went on their second 11-0 run to take a 39-31 lead with 12:37 remaining. The Saints shot 52% in the second half doing most of their damage inside where they scored 20 points in the paint while also out-rebounding Canisius 19-8 in the stanza.

Siena's defense came up big as well, holding the nation's third best three-point shooting team at 39.4% to nearly 11 percent below their season average. The Saints swiped 12 steals and forced 20 turnovers in earning their 45th win over Canisius, their most against any program.

Crystal Porter led Canisius with 14 points on 7-10 shooting, while Hoohuli added 13 points for the Golden Griffins. Despite their regular season coming to an end, Canisius will have to wait to find out their MAAC Tournament seeding as they can still finish anywhere from 7-9.

Siena concludes the regular season with Senior Day Sunday at the ARC at 2 p.m. against the Peacocks. Just prior to tip-off the Saints will honor their senior class of Kelsey Booth, Coles and Ida Krogh. The first 300 fans in attendance will also receive a commemorative bobblehead doll of Coles.
