Saints Rough Up Rider

Feb. 5, 2015

Final Stats

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - What a difference eight days makes. After being stymied by Rider last Wednesday at the ARC, Siena Women's Basketball got revenge in a big way with a thorough 65-43 domination of the Broncs at Alumni Gymnasium.

Siena (13-9, 6-7) scored 31 of the final 36 points in the first half and led by as many as season-best 30 points. The Saints, which won nine games total all of last year, secured their ninth road win to tie them with Arkansas-Little Rock, Rutgers and San Diego for the third most road victories nationally.

Siena put the game away early with a decisive 18-0 run spanning 9:12 to open a commanding 22-7 lead at the 7:31 mark. The Saints held Rider (7-15, 4-8) scoreless for a total of 10:26 as the Broncs missed all six of their shots and were forced into nine turnovers during the drought.

Siena's offense was equally impressive as the Saints made eight of their final 10 shots of the stanza to take their biggest halftime lead of the year, 35-12. The Saints dominated all phases over the first 20 minutes, holding a 23-12 edge in rebounding, 14-3 edge in points off turnovers and 10-0 margin in second chance points while holding the Broncs to just 21.7% (5-23) shooting.

Rider would go on a 16-4 run midway through the second half to get as close as 18 points, but it would not be nearly enough as the Saints snapped a five-game losing streak in the series.

All seven Saints made key contributions and four scored in double figures. Freshman Kollyns Scarbrough led the way for a second straight contest with a game-high 13 points, while sophomore captain Meghan Donohue added 12 points on 6-7 shooting. The Saints shot 51.1% from the field while holding Rider to just 27.3% shooting, a season-best for the Siena defense.

Senior captain Tehresa Coles contributed 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals and Margot Hetzke added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Saints which pulled into a tie for fifth place in the MAAC Standings with Canisius.

Robin Perkins was the lone Bronc in double figures with 10 points, albeit on just 3-15 shooting. Stephanie Mason added all nine of her points off the bench in the second half for Rider which had entered play winners of four of their previous five after having begun conference play with six consecutive defeats.

The Saints return to action Saturday when they host Monmouth at 2 p.m. on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Student athletes and coaches from all 11 of Siena's women's sports teams will be in attendance at the game and recognized for the contributions they've made for women in sports.
