Final Stats

Emily Loprete scored twice and Michelle McNeil added a goal as Holy Cross topped Siena Field Hockey 3-1 in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. Freshman Marie Aloi scored in her first collegiate game for the Saints and senior Mary Drabich recorded four saves. .

Holy Cross held a 12-8 edge in shots, while the Saints held a 5-4 edge in corners as the programs met for the 13th straight season in what has been a tightly contested series.

The Saints and Aloi wasted no time when she buried her first career goal just 107 seconds into the game off a rebound that deflected off the goalkeeper.

Holy Cross then added two more goals when McNeil scored on a pass that was tipped cross pass in the middle from Maureen Connolly (21') and Loprete tallied her second goal on the day (61') when Connolly sent the ball across and scored on the rebound in the middle of the circle.

Megan Inch made five saves in getting the win for Holy Cross.

Siena returns to action on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start at Lafayette, before returning to the Capital Region for their home opener Sunday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m. against Colgate.
