LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- Siena Field Hockey defeated the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 6-2 in a Friday afternoon MAAC battle. The six goals were the most for the program in its 24 seasons in Division I. Senior Ashley Dona scored six points in the game on two goals and two assists.
The Saints (3-8, 2-1) started the scoring just three minutes into the game on Aubrie Bleier's third goal of the year. Just five minutes later, Fariyah Omarshah added her fifth goal of the season on the second assist of the game by Dona.
Danielle DeGroot scored her second of the year off a penalty corner in the 22nd minute to give Siena a 3-0 lead over the Blackbirds (0-11, 0-3). The Saints tacked on one more before the half as Omarshah netted her second of the half and sixth of the year in the 29th minute.
Siena increased its lead to five when Dona scored less than two minutes into the second half.
The Blackbirds got on the board in the 38th minute when Jordan Laytos found Casey Carrigan. LIU Brooklyn tacked on their second score less than seven minutes later when Carrigan assisted Laytos.
Dona secured the program record sixth goal with seven minutes left in the half. Dona led the team with six points on the day, including her fourth and fifth goals of the year.
The Saints will return to Siena Turf Field on Sunday, October 14 at 1 p.m. against Fairfield. The Senior Day Ceremony will begin at 12:45 p.m. The final home game will be streamed in HD on Siena All Access.
