Siena Field Hockey saw its season come to a close Friday night with a 4-0 loss at Rider. It was a must win game for both teams to reach the postseason. The Saints were seeking to clinch their first ever berth in the MAAC playoffs. Freshman goalkeeper Mary Crumlish had 16 saves for Siena to tie her career high.
The two teams were scoreless for 22 minutes before Daane Koch put Rider (10-8, 4-2) up on her 11th goal of the season. The Broncs tacked on another goal with two minutes to go in the half to take a two goal lead into the intermission.
Rider added two more goals in the 49th and 57th minutes to take the victory 4-0 over Siena (3-11, 2-4). The Broncs clinched their 17th straight trip to the MAAC playoffs with the win.
Crumlish had 16 saves in the game to bring her total to132 in her rookie campaign for the Saints. Aubrie Bleier led the offense with three shots in the game, two on goal.
The Saints will return two of the their top four scorers next season, Fariyah Omarshah and Bleier, from a team who scored their most goals in a season since 2009. Siena finishes the season fifth in the MAAC.
