Siena Women's Tennis competed in the URI Invitational where matches consisted of five points total, four singles and one doubles. Siena took on URI, Army and Monmouth in the first day of the invitational.

"Overall, I believe our girls played well today," said head coach Jeff Osborn. "They are showing great progress to be ready for our Spring season."

When facing URI in singles Siena fell 3-2. It was a close match but URI was able to come out on top. Ivana Boberic came out on top and pulled out a three set win on court two. Freshman, Juliana Goehner and Annessa Leyva won the doubles point for Siena. On court four, Rina Sakai played three sets but fell in the first set 6-1. She then turned it around and took the second set 7-6 (4), but she fell in the final set 10-1. On court three, Mitsuki Fukamachi fell in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Army bested Siena 5-0. Army was able to take the one doubles point and all four singles. Ali Garrity came out strong but fell 6-4, 6-2. Siena gave it their best effort but Army was able to take all four singles points.

Siena turned their day around when they faced MAAC foe, Monmouth. They defeated the Hawks 5-0. Leyva and Ann Phillips won in doubles 8-1 to take the first point. Boberic took court one with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Fukamachi won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1, while Garrity picked up a win 6-0, 6-1 on court three. Goehner picked up the win on court four 6-1, 6-2.

The URI Invitational continues Sunday, Oct. 9 as Siena faces Bryant at 8:30 a.m. and Providence at 11 a.m. to finish the tournament.
