LAWRENCE, KS -- A late 18-2 run helped push No. 7/8 Kansas past Siena Basketball 86-65 in front of a sellout crowd of 16,300 at historic Allen Fieldhouse. Seniors Javion Ogunyemi and Marquis Wright combined to score 44 points in a strong effort from the shorthanded Saints, which trailed by as few as five points with 7:26 to go.

Frank Mason III led five in double figures for Kansas (2-1) which shot 56.9% from the field in winning its 43rd straight home opener. Carlton Bragg, Jr. added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Jayhawks which won their 43rd straight home game, and 41st in a row in front of the 243rd consecutive sellout at Allen Fieldhouse.

Wright scored 16 of his game-high 25 points in the second half for Siena (1-2) which fell to 6-44 all-time against AP Top-25 opponents, including 0-15 vs. Top-10 foes. Meanwhile Ogunyemi scored 13 of his 19 points in the first half and finished with four blocks, while freshman guard Khalil Richard came off the bench to record his first collegiate double digit performance with 10 points.

Despite playing without the services of key contributors Nico Clareth and Lavon Long, the Saints gave the national title contenders, who were fresh off a victory over top-ranked Duke Tuesday, all they could handle. Kansas led by as many as 12 in a relatively tightly contested first half which featured four ties and eight lead changes, in taking a 40-30 lead at the break.

The Jayhawks continued to hold Siena at arm's length for the first half of the final stanza, leading by 10 with 9:37 to go. But Wright reeled off three consecutive three-point plays to rally the Saints within 63-58 with just 7:26 remaining, and put heavily favored Kansas on upset alert.

However, Siena couldn't get the stops they needed late. The Jayhawks, which shot 65.4% from the field in the second half, responded to Wright's spurt by connecting on six of their next seven shots to fuel their 18-2 run over the following 4:17 to pull away.

Siena continues competition in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic when the Saints travel to face defending Big South Champion UNC Asheville Sunday at 2 p.m. in Asheville, North Carolina.
