HAMDEN, CT. - Reigning MAAC Regular Season Champions Quinnipiac used a fourth quarter surge to propel them to a 73-47 win over the Saints. Siena forced the Bobcats to turn the ball over 20 times, the most Quinnipiac has committed all season.
The Bobcats were led by Jen Fay, who was celebrating her birthday and added 19 points for Quinnipiac. Vanessa Udoji recorded 13 while Paula Strautmane tallied 11 to help push the Bobcats past the Saints. Quinnipiac shot just 40-percent from the floor on the game but went nine-for-seventeen (52.9%) in the fourth quarter.
Meghan Donohue scored 13 points for Siena, while Jackie Benitez and Kollyns Scarbrough both chipped in nine. Benitez added five of the Saints 15 steals.
It was a tight battle in the first quarter between the MAAC foes. Siena and the Bobcats both fought hard to open up conference play 2-0. With just two seconds left in the first quarter Quinnipiac took a 14-12 lead.
Continuing their hot ending in the first quarter, the Bobcats went up by as much as five, 17-12. Siena played Quinnipiac tight, but was kept at just an arm's length away. The Saints forced the Bobcats to turn the ball over 12 times in the first half. The Bobcats never gave up their lead and headed into the locker room with a six-point lead over the Saints, 32-26.
The Saints came out of the locker room with a fire and put that six-point deficit into just two. Quinnipiac did not let that stop them and they went up 41-30 with just over 6 minutes left in the third quarter. The Bobcats took a 50-39 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest.
In the final 10 minutes of the play, the Bobcats did not stop and continued to add to their lead. At the final media timeout of the game, Quinnipiac took their largest lead of the game, 63-44. As the final horn sounded the Bobcats would come out with a 73-47 win over the Saints.
Donohue and Scarbrough led the Saints with eight boards a piece. Karolina Severova came off the bench and scored eight points for Siena, including 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
Siena returns back to the ARC to take on non-conference opponent New Hampshire on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
