Final Stats
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Four Siena women's basketball student athletes scored in double-digits for Siena but that was not enough as the Saints fell 77-67 to the University of New Hampshire. Siena shot .442 from the floor while holding the Wildcats to a .435 shooting percentage.
Brittni Lai scored a game-high 25 points for the Wildcats after going three-for-five from the three point line. Carlie Pogue and Kat Fogarty added 18 and 11 points for UNH, respectively.
Meghan Donohue was a board away from a double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds and tallied 18 points. The senior forward was a perfect eight-for-eight from the charity stripe. Jackie Benitez added 14 points, while Karolina Severova came off the bench and recorded a career-high 13 points for the Saints.
The Saints (2-5) and UNH (6-2) played a tightly contested battle right from tipoff. The Wildcats would only go up by as much as four points in the first quarter, but it would come right back to the Saints. After the first quarter it was an even 16-16 on the scoreboard.
After the Wildcats opened the second quarter with a basket, Jackie Benitez would then score the next 11 points for Siena as they would take a 27-18 lead. The Saints continued to be hot from behind the arc as they shot 57.1% (4-for-7) in the second quarter. Siena would go up by as much as 13, 37-24, but UNH would close out the second quarter with the last five points and trail just 37-29 at the half.
The tables turned in the third quarter as the Wildcats would start on a 10-2 run to tie the game 39-39. Siena continued to keep the contest tight and would not give up the lead. At the end of the third quarter UNH tied the game 50-50 on a free throw.
The Wildcats shot 53% from the field and 75% from behind arc in the fourth quarter to help push them to a victory. It was a tightly contested battle, but right under the five minute mark, UNH made their mark. The Wildcats continued to find the basket and went up by as much as 10, 75-65. Siena had some chances to make a comeback but it would be UNH that would take the victory 77-67.
Severova went three-for-four (.750) from the three, while dishing out three assists for Siena. Denisha Petty-Evans, who made her way back into the starting lineup, recorded 12 points for the Saints along with four assists. Kollyns Scarbrough added nine points for Siena.
The Saints will make their way down to Fort Myers, Florida to face WNIT Runners-Up Florida Gulf Coast on Friday, December 9. Tipoff is set for 5:15 p.m.
