Feb. 14, 2016

Final Stats

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan forced 27 miscues leading to a 32-9 edge in points off turnovers to defeat Siena Women's Basketball 56-49 at Draddy Gymnasium. Senior forward Symone Kelly paced the Saints with nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Junior captain Meghan Donohue (5-7 shooting) and sophomore guard Kollyns Scarbrough (nine rebounds) led the way in scoring with 13 points apiece for Siena (12-14, 9-7) which has dropped four straight and seven of nine to slide to sixth in the MAAC Standings with four games remaining. The top-five seeds receive coveted First Round byes in the MAAC Championships hosted by the Saints next month at the Times Union Center.

Amani Tatum led a balanced attack with 13 points and six assists for Manhattan (12-12, 9-6) which has won six of eight to leapfrog the Saints into fifth place in the MAAC by a half game. Ranked eighth nationally in steals, Tatum added five thefts to lead the Jaspers' aggressive defense which entered play ranked 15th nationally in steals and 21st in turnovers forced.

Siena out-rebounded Manhattan 39-25 and battled to overcome their turnovers and remain within striking distance throughout. The Saints held the Jaspers to just 28.1% (9-32) shooting in the first half to forge a 22-all tie at the break.

The score remained knotted at 34 heading into the final quarter, but the Jaspers offense heated up late as they embarked on a 12-0 run to claim a 46-36 lead with 5:22 to play. Manhattan doubled their shooting efficiency in the second half, connecting on 56.5% (13-23) of their attempts.

Siena responded with a mini 6-2 run to rally within six with 3:18 to go, but could get no closer as the Jaspers secured just their second win in the last 11 meetings between the programs.

Taylor Williams contributed nine points off the bench and Kayla Grimme added six points, six rebounds and four blocks for Manhattan.

The Saints return to action Wednesday when they host Fairfield for the 16th Annual Pink Zone Pink Zone Game presented by Berkshire Bank at 7 p.m. at the ARC. The game, which seeks to raise money and awareness for local breast cancer survivors, has raised $161,274 since its inception.
