March 20, 2016 Final Stats
The Siena women's tennis team rebounded nicely Sunday to defeat MAAC rival Niagara by a final of 7-0. After a sweep of all three doubles matches that gained the Saints the doubles point Siena carried the strong play into singles competition.
"I am extremely proud of how they played today," said Siena head coach Jeff Osborn. "Last year Niagara beat us 4-3 and to be able to come back this year and play them so well was a credit to the team's hard work that they have put in so far this season".
Rina Sakai clinched the victory for the Saints after she won her match at second singles by a final score 6-4, 6-2. The largest comeback of the day came from Allyssa Singh at number four singles. The senior took the first set 6-3 but then fell behind 5-0 in the second. She then went on to win seven straight games to win the match and to avoid going into a third set.
Siena will return to action Thursday when the team travels to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.
