April 16, 2016 Final Stats
Another game, another nailbiter for Siena Women's Lacrosse. The Saints rallied late scoring four times in 5:28 in the waning minutes, but ultimately fell just short in a 12-11 loss at Iona. The defeat marked the third consecutive one-goal setback for Siena, which has played to one-goal margins in six of its last seven games.
Michelle Schwartz was one of five Saints (7-8, 2-4) to register two goals and led the squad with four points. Lauren Anglim, Sarah Croutier, Cara McQuillan and Lauren Smith each added a pair of scores.
Siena never led, although the game was tight throughout and the Saints rallied three times to forge ties. However, Iona (8-6, 3-2) embarked on a four-goal run midway through the second half to take a commanding 12-7 lead with 13:00 to go.
The Saints would battle back, responding with the four-goal run of their own in the closing minutes to draw within a score with 2:40 to play. But Siena was only able to control possession for just 20 seconds thereafter as the Saints were unable to register a tying attempt on goal in suffering their fifth one-goal loss of the season.
Mary Kate McCormick led the Gaels with five points on a pair of goals and three assists, while Erin Pugh and Jenna Tolzman each added hat tricks.
Siena held a 16-9 advantage in draw controls and caused 15 turnovers. The teams combined to commit 41 turnovers in the contest.
The Saints will look to bounce back Wednesday when they head to Niagara for a pivotal conference clash at 4 p.m.
