In the last nine meetings, Siena and Holy Cross games have been decided by two goals or less. Holy Cross was able to get the go-ahead goal for a 3-2 victory over the Saints.
Holy Cross (1-0-0) held a 19-10 edge in shots, while Siena (0-1-0) led corners 6-1 for the program's 16th meeting.
Both teams played the long ball as the game remained scoreless for most of the first half. The Crusaders got on the board in the 21' to take a 1-0 lead. It wasn't long after that when Holy Cross struck again for a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
The Crusaders came out of halftime with the vision of a victory as they scored right out of the gate in the 36'. With a 3-0 lead over the Saints, it was time to turn on the engines.
Sophomore Fariyah Omarshah scored her first collegiate goal in the 39' off a cross from Aubrie Bleier. Bleier was not finished there as she scored a goal of her own off a rebound kicked out by Molly Hagen.
With the score 3-2 in the Crusaders favor, it was a tight finish to the game. Both teams continued to battle, but Holy Cross came out with the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper Mary Crumlish recorded 10 saves in her collegiate debut off of 13 shots on goal.
Siena returns to action on Thursday, September 1st at Colgate. The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
