Siena finished off its season-opening four- game road stretch with a tough 3-2 loss to Saint Francis (PA). Sophomore forward
Fariyah Omarshah and senior forward
Ashley Dona scored for the Saints.
Saint Francis (6-1) opened the scoring in the fourth minute on a goal by Hannah Retherford, but the Saints (1-3) battled back. Dona drew Siena even in the 27th minute on an assist by junior midfielder Molly Hagen, and just 43 seconds later, the Saints went in front. Omarshah tallied the go-ahead goal as she continued her hot streak to start the season with her third goal in four games.
But, the Red Flash erased the Saint's lead in the 49th minute and Kyra Castano added the game-winning goal with about five minutes to go in regulation as Saint Francis rallied late to win its sixth straight.
Saint Francis held a 15-4 advantage in shots, including a 12-1 margin in the second half.
Freshman goalkeeper Mary Crumlish had six saves for Siena, which came up just short on the road against a quality opponent, which won ten games last year.
The Saints will look to bounce back when they host UMass Lowell next Friday at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played at nearby UAlbany.
