ALBANY, N.Y. – Siena hosted its first game of the season at UAlbany and dropped a 5-2 decision to the visiting UMass Lowell River Hawks. Jaycie St. John scored her first career goal and Fabiano Citro scored her first goal of the season for the Saints.
UMass Lowell (2-3) started the scoring in the fifth minute on a goal by Torrie Huk. Christa Doiron and Eleonore Agneessens added goals in the first half to give the River Hawks a 3-0 advantage heading to the second half.
Siena (1-4) struck first in the second half on a goal by sophomore defender St. John with an assist from sophomore forward Fariyah Omarshah. The Saints pulled within one goal in the 44th minute when senior midfielder Citro found the back of the net on a pass from Ashley Dona. The River Hawks added two more goals by Huk in the second half to end the game 5-2. UMass Lowell goalkeeper Eva Berkhout had four saves.
The Saints combined for nine saves, including six by freshman goalkeeper Mary Crumlish. Freshman Tatiana Wypych had her first career defensive save and St. John added two more defensive saves for Siena.
The Saints look to bounce back when they head to Rutgers this Sunday, September 18th at 1 p.m.
