Final Stats

Siena Field Hockey was edged 3-1 in their season opener at Vermont. The Catamounts capitalized off of two goals in the second half to push them past the Saints.

Freshman forward Stephanie Hand recorded her first collegiate goal, and the Saints (0-1) only goal of the game. Sophomore goalie Mary Crumlish tallied nine saves in the game.

Vermont's (1-0) returning leading scorer Landon Warren tallied two goals for the Catamounts. Jackie Gillen scored the final goal for Vermont.

It was a quiet first half as both teams looked to the new season with the hopes of starting off with a victory. It wasn't until the 34' that the Catamounts tallied a goal. Warren picked up her first goal of the game and put Vermont up 1-0 heading into halftime.

Coming out of halftime both teams continued to battle back-and-forth. In the 43', Warren tallied her second goal of the game and pushed Vermont to a 2-0 lead. Hand then had her opportunity after a Saints penalty corner shot went wide. Hand got the rebound off a shot from Molly Hagen and put it on goal to trail just 2-1 with just 10 minutes left to play. In the 68' Gillen scored to push the Catamounts ahead by two with two minutes to play. Vermont was able to hold off the Saints and picked up a 3-1 victory.

Vermont outshot the Saints 24-5 and took four more penalty corners as they took six and Siena took two. The Saints recorded nine saves in the game, while Vermont's goalie Lena Benwood tallied three.

The Saints will host Miami (OH) on the campus of UAlbany on Sunday, Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m.
