HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Siena Field Hockey came up just short against Hofstra in a 3-2 non-conference matchup at Hofstra. The Saints and Pride recorded four of the goals in the second half.
Sophomore goalie Mary Crumlish recorded 14 saves in the game, the second straight game with 10 or more saves for Siena (0-3). Brianna Muniz and Molly Hagen each recorded a goal for the Saints.
Madison Sauve tallied two goals for Hofstra (2-1), while Philine de Wolf added one. Carys Swan had three saves for the Pride.
Hofstra struck first in the 8' off a penalty corner. The remainder of the first half was a lot of keep away. Crumlish was solid in the cage recorded seven saves. The Saints were unable to record a shot in the first half, but trailed just 1-0 at the end of 35 minutes played.
Siena came out strong to start the second half. After not recording a shot in the first half, Brianna Muniz picked up her first goal of the season and tied the game 1-1. The Pride would not be stopped though and quickly struck back scoring just 143 seconds later to go ahead 2-1.
In the 55' Sauve for Hofstra tallied her second goal of the game and put Hofstra ahead 3-1. Sole senior Hagen and the Saints continued to battle as Hagen picked up a rebound and scored from the top of the arc to put Siena back within one 3-2 in the 67'. Siena made attempts to pick up a third goal, but the Pride stayed ahead and took the game 3-2.
Siena will continue their road trip and head to Hamilton, New York to face Colgate on Wednesday, September 6. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
