Siena Women's Lacrosse fell 16-8 to Niagara on Wednesday afternoon. Annie Brennan scored a career-high four goals in the loss.
Rachel MacCheyne led all scorers with six points. She recorded four goals and dished out two assists for Niagara (5-7, 2-1). Caroline Crump added four goals and one assist, while Hailey D'Hont tallied a hat trick in the win.
Brennan led the Saints (4-9, 0-4) with four goals. Julia Pelcher added two goals for the Saints. Sammy Horton stopped 11 shots in the cage.
Niagara wasted no time in the contest clearing the ball in the opening minute and Alexis Morales putting the Purple Eagles up 1-0. MacCheyne registered the draw control and ran it down the field for her first goal of the game and a 2-0 Niagara lead. Niagara would tally three more unanswered goals to lead the Saints 5-0.
Pelcher scored her first goal of the game off a free-position. The Purple Eagles added three goals to take the lead 8-1. Alexis Deaken scored on a free-position and extended her game-scoring streak to 24 games. Brennan then scored her first goal of the game followed by a Pelcher draw and Alexandra Rekos goal as the Saints cut down on the Niagara lead, 8-4. The Purple Eagles would add one more in the frame to lead the Saints 9-4 at halftime.
In the opening 98 seconds, MacCheyne would win two draw controls while D'Hont would score two goals to push Niagara ahead 11-4. The Purple Eagles scored four unanswered goals to lead Siena 15-4 with 19:53 to play. Brennan would respond and score the next two goals of the game as the Saints trailed 15-6.
Travis Mackenzie would score the final Niagara goal with 3:32 left. Following the goal, Kerry Gerety won her second draw control and Pelcher scored her second goal of the game. As the Saints were man-down, Brennan scored her fourth and final goal of the game off a free-position with 28 seconds remaining. Niagara would hold off and take the win 16-8.
Siena will head to Manhattan to close out their 2018 road games on Saturday, April 14. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
