The Siena Men's Tennis program saw junior
Alexandros Giannakitsidis take control on Saturday, as he helped steer successful doubles play, as well as singles play in leading the Saints on the final day of the Hofstra Pride Invitational.
Giannakitsdis along with
Sagar Bains led the top doubles team of the weekend, as they were set to play in the semifinals in the main bracket for Draw B this morning. They did so, defeating the pairing of Budinszky and Diaz of Fairleigh Dickenson by a score of 6-1 to partake in the Draw B final. There, they would come up just short, falling to Hainer and Jackson of Hofstra 6-2.
It wouldn't stop there for Giannakitsidis, as he would sail through the Draw D bracket winning three times to take the Draw D Championship. His first two wins of the draw would be 8-0 victories, with an 8-4 win in the final over Leader from Adelphi to take the top spot.
"Star of the weekend had to be Alex Giannakitsidis he played the best tennis I have seen since he has been on campus here at Siena," said head coach
Jeff Osborn. "We had a great weekend with some quality wins."
The other excitement came out of the Draw B Consolation Singles bracket, as Bains and sophomore
Guillermo Torres each won their semifinal matches, with Bains defeating Sause of Sacred Heart 8-4, while Torres defeated Rashad from Queens 8-3. With the wins, that would pit the teammates against each other for the back draw final for Draw B. Torres would get the better of Bains, defeating him 8-6.
The Saints return to the court next Sunday, Sept. 30 when they travel to Worcester, MA to take on Holy Cross. The first match is set to take off at 11 a.m.
