The Siena Men's Tennis program used a strong day from their doubles squads as they conclude the first day of play at the Hofstra Pride Invitational.
The day's highlight came from the doubles pair of
Sagar Bains and
Alexandros Giannakitsidis, who won two straight matches to land themselves in the semifinal for Draw B, where they will face Budinszky/Diaz from Farleigh Dickinson. To get there, they defeated Ayman Khan and Tyler Love of Sacred Heart (6-4) in their first match of the day. Then, they defeated Ryan Hardin and Giacomo Pezzol of Hofstra to set themselves up for tomorrow. Also, despite a first round loss, Tomas Del Olmo and
Guillermo Torres will be playing in the consolation semifinal in the back draw.
Other doubles highlights came from
Cameron Kirkwood and
Muhammad Sawani, as they earned a spot in the semifinal of their back draw with a win in their second match. In singles highlights, Del Olmo and Sawani each won a match in the main draw before dropping their second matches of the day. Bains and Torres also will compete in the back draw semi finals tomorrow of their draw, while
Geovanny Mendoza, Giannakitsidis and Kirkwood are in quarters of back draw tomorrow.
The Saints return to the court tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 22 as they compete in day two of the Hofstra Invitational. The tournament will go all day, with many semifinals and finals matchups on deck.
