Women’s Basketball Kicks Off MAAC Play at Saint Peter’s

Saints Aimed to Begin 2019 With a Strong Start

The Siena Saints women's basketball program has a chance to kick off 2019 in the right direction, as they begin MAAC play in Jersey City, NJ as they are set to take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Saints finished non-conference play with a 4-7 record, as Siena prepares for their 30th year in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Ten things to know for Friday's game versus Saint Peter's:
  • After accumulating a 4-7 record in non-conference play, Siena Women's Basketball commences its 30th MAAC slate on the road at Saint Peter's Friday evening.
  • Siena has accumulated a 320-229 (.583) record in MAAC play all-time, including a 56-60 outcome under head coach Ali Jaques.
  • For the second consecutive year, Siena was picked to finish third in the MAAC in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Maddie Sims (Second Team) and Aaliyah Jones (Third Team) earning Preseason All-MAAC honors.
  • Since joining the conference in 1990, the Saints own a 15-14 mark in MAAC openers, and will being league play against the Peacocks for the first time since a 60-58 win over their rivals in 1998.
  • The team has won three of its last four contests against MAAC schools, including two straight regular season games dating back to last season.
  • Siena concluded its non-conference schedule at home on Dec. 21, 2018, falling to Hofstra, 57-50. Junior Maddie Sims posted her second straight double-double, posting 10 points and as many boards for her fourth double-double of the season.
  • Having not played since before Christmas, the squad's 14-day hiatus marks its longest game drought since 2015, when it went 16 days in between facing Albany (Dec. 12) and Colgate (Dec. 28).
  • Adding an assist to her total on Friday, senior Deja Rawls sits at 21st in program history in the category (264). Rawls needs three more helps to tie Cori Drummond (267, 1995-99) for 20th.
  • Riding a 16-game winning streak, including a perfect 12-0 mark under coach Jaques, Siena holds a 38-31 advantage over the Peacocks, sweeping the season series each year since 2011.
  • Junior Maddie Sims became the first Siena player to earn a MAAC weekly honor this season when she was named the conference's Player of the Week on Dec. 17. The accolade came after the Mount Laurel, N.J. native recorded her third double-double of the year, which propelled the team to a non-conference win over UMass on Dec. 16.
