Eight different members of the Siena Swim Team raced to a collegiate best Friday, as the team cruised through day three of the 2019 MAAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY.
Among the fanfare, four swimmers advanced to final heats in five different events, with senior
Elizabeth Fournier securing a top-8 finish for the third time in her career. The co-captain qualified for the final heat of the 100-yard fly and the 200-yard free, setting best times in both events during her preliminary swims. After taking fourth pace in the 100 fly with a personal best of 57.58, Fournier took the men's heat of the event to rest up before finishing 16th in the 200 free with a best time of 1:56.99. The West Haven, CT native went on to swim the same exact time in the final heat of the 100 fly, placing sixth overall in the MAAC. Fournier took seventh in the race her junior season, while placing eighth in the 200 fly.
Fournier was joined by junior
Rachel Brown in qualifying for the final in the 200 free, with Brown compiling a personal best of 1:56.59 to take 14th in the preliminary, and then improving three hundredths of a second to finish 12th in the final round.
The day began with a pair of Saints swimming best times in the 400-yard IM, with sophomore
Sydney Lautenslager securing a spot in the final round by taking 14th place with a 4:44.66 and then finishing 12th in the final with a 4:43.08. Lautenslager was joined by freshman
Sarah Duggan, who finished the preliminary round with a 4:50.43, in displaying a best time in the event on the day.
Senior
Julianna Sebastian also advanced beyond the preliminary round of the 100-yard fly, placing 14th in the prelim and 15th in the final heat, with a mark of 59.35 in the latter.
Other members of the Green and Gold who took home best times on the day included junior
Katelyn Ludwicki in the 200 free (1:58.72) freshmen
Isabel Harms in the 100 back (1:00.37) and junior
Larissa Nanna, who advanced to the final round of the 100-yard breaststroke and then won the consolation heat, placing ninth overall in the MAAC with a time of 1:06.82.
The team rounded out the day by taking sixth in the 400-yard medley relay, with the group of Harms, Nanna, Fournier and Brown swimming a 3:56.83 to chop over five seconds off their seed time. Through the conclusion of 27 events in the meet, Siena remains in eighth place overall with 134 points.
The 2019 MAAC Championships conclude Saturday in Buffalo, with the preliminary rounds beginning at 10 am with the 200-yard backstroke, and the finals taking place at 6 PM.
