Saints Make Push Into Final Weekend of Regular Season

The Siena Saints, winners of their last two games, head into the final weekend of the regular season as they get set to take on the Rider Broncs on Thursday evening. Rider topped the Saints by a slim margin back on January 13, when the Broncs took a 55-52 win in Loudonville.

Ten things to know for Thursday's game versus Rider:
  • At 5-6 on the road this season heading into their final away contest of the year, the Saints have a chance to finish with a .500 or better record away from home for the first time since the 2013-14 season (12-4).
  • The Green and Gold trekked out to Buffalo last week and returned with a win, overcoming Canisius in a 78-66 overtime thriller. Leading for the majority of the contest, the Saints boasted three double-digit scorers, with junior Sabrina Piper putting up 26 points, redshirt-senior Aaliyah Jones adding 21 and senior Deja Rawls chipping in 13.
  • The win improved the Saints to 3-1 in overtime games this season, and matched last year's total of four games that involved free basketball (4-0).
  • With a win over Niagara on Feb. 16, Head Coach Ali Jaques became the third coach in program history to ellipse the 100-win threshold, joining Gina Castelli (1990-2012, 336) and Joe Hogan (1980-85, 115) as Siena coaches to do so. Currently in her seventh year at the helm, Jaques holds a 101-116 all-time record.
  • Siena has accumulated a 294-218 (.574) record in MAAC play all-time, including a 64-68 (.485) outcome under head coach Ali Jaques.
  • For the second consecutive year, Siena was picked to finish third in the MAAC in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Maddie Sims (Second Team) and Aaliyah Jones (Third Team) earning Preseason All-MAAC honors.
  • Adding three assists to her total last Friday, senior Deja Rawls sits in 13th place all-time in the category with 305. Rawls needs 17 more helps to tie Siena Athletics Hall of Famer Gunta Basko (1999-03, 322) for 12th.
  • Adding three blocks to her career total on Friday, Maddie Sims is now in 9th place all-time in the statistic with 90. The junior needs four more swats to tie Ann Marie Graney (1981-95, 94) for eighth. Sims is also currently tied for fifth in program history for the most blocks in a single season with 42 this year.
  • Maddie Sims ranks second in the MAAC in double-doubles, with six so far this season, including four in conference play.
  • Taking last year's sole head-to-head matchup in overtime, Siena holds a 33-13 advantage all-time against Rider. The Broncs took the teams' first matchup this season with a 55-52 win in Loudonville on Jan. 13.
