Surging Saints Complete Sweep of Stags

Men’s Basketball Posts Fifth Win in Past Six Games

ALBANY, NY – Evan Fisher scored a game-high 18 points as Siena Basketball completed the regular season series sweep of Fairfield with a 61-50 triumph at the Times Union Center. Jalen Pickett added 13 points for the Saints which have won five of their last six overall, and three straight in Albany.

Kevin Degnan chipped in with 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals for Siena (11-12, 6-4) against his former team as the Saints flummoxed Fairfield (7-17, 4-8) for the second time in 11 days.

Landon Taliaferro scored 14 points and reserve Wassef Methnani tallied 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Stags who were concluding a three-game road trip.

Siena never trailed albeit never led by double digits until its final basket. Both teams shot over 50% in the first half and combined to go 14-24 from three as the Saints claimed a 38-32 lead at the break. Siena shot 8-11 from downtown in the opening stanza.

Fairfield hung around in the second half, and twice rallied to tie the score midway through the stanza. But that's when the Saints' now trademark defense took over.
Pickett opened a decisive 8-0 run with consecutive three-point plays, and Siena held the Stags scoreless for 8:33 to claim a 55-47 lead with 3:43 to go. Fairfield went 0-10 from the field with five turnovers during the drought, and scored just 18 points total in the second half on only 29% shooting.

The Saints ultimately finished the game on a 14-3 run over the final 8:41 to post their ninth win in the past 13 meetings with the Stags, including five of the last seven at the Times Union Center.

The staunch defensive effort marked the 12th consecutive game in which Siena has held its opponent to 70 points or less, marking the program's longest such stretch since a 17-game streak from Dec. 8, 1992 – Feb. 10, 1993. The Saints have now allowed an average of just 57.8 points over their past dozen contests.

Following a grueling three games in five days stretch, Siena will enjoy a brief respite before returning to action Friday night for a 7 p.m. tip-off at Manhattan.
