LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Saints men's lacrosse team made it a pair of wins in a row, opening MAAC play with a commanding 17-10 victory over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies at Hickey Field on Tuesday afternoon. It would be the first time since 2015 that the Saints would begin conference play 1-0.
Siena (3-2, 1-0) was paced with a strong five-point showing from senior
Keenan Cook, as he scored a pair of goals with three assists.
Jack Kiernan and
Dylan Pantalone each scored three times, while Pantalone added an assist for four points. The Saints had 10 different scorers, which included senior
Mike Reilly scoring twice and adding an assist.
With his three points, he became the 28
th player in program history to eclipse the 100 point mark. Graduate student
Aaron Lewis made seven saves in his third win of the season.
St. Bonaventure (0-5, 0-3) was led by a three-goal day from Sean Westley, who leads the Bonnies in points this season. John Kilcommons, Austin Blumbergs, and Matt DeGirolamo each scored a pair of goals, while Jackson rose added a long tally and an assist. Goalie Brett Dobson took the loss in new for the Bonnies, giving up eight goals in the loss.
It was all Siena early on in the first quarter, as they scored 27 seconds into the game on a strike from Pantalone. That led to a 6-0 lead for Siena over the first eight minutes of play. St. Bonaventure broke the streak with a man up goal, but Siena would score another two goals before the end of the first to take an 8-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.
St. Bonaventure owned the start of the season quarter, as they scored four goals in a row to open the quarter to cut the Siena lead to three goals at 8-5. But Reilly would step up for Siena, scoring the goal for his 100
th point at the 11:45 mark to get the Green and Gold back on offensive push. That led to a 5-0 Siena run, giving them a 13-5 lead at the half.
The third and fourth quarters saw less offense, as Siena slowed their bill on the offensive side with the lead. That led to only four second half goals for the Saints, as Pantalone and Kiernan scored their third goals of the game, while
George Rusnak would score a pair. St. Bonaventure would score six goals in the second half, but the deficit was too large for them to top the Saints.
Siena returns to action on Saturday, March 16 when they return home to Hickey Field to take on the Manhattan Jaspers. Opening faceoff for the game will go off at 1 p.m.
