LOUDONVILLE, NY - Central Connecticut scored all eight of its runs and recorded 10 of its 12 hits over the final three innings as the Blue Devils surged past Siena Baseball 8-1 in non-league action at Connors Park.
Devan Kruzinski knocked in the lone run for the Saints on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
Siena (9-23) maintained a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, as five hurlers combined on a two-hit shutout on a staff day.
Dylan D'Anna retired all six batters he faced while striking out a pair to start, while
Matt Pierce,
Brendan Quigley,
Tim Zehnbauer, and
James Flood each added scoreless frames.
But CCSU (15-12) knotted the game on an RBI double by Jack Nolan in the seventh, before striking for four runs to take the lead in the eighth. Dave Matthews delivered the go-ahead RBI double, while Nolan also knocked in a run in the frame as the Blue Devils took a 5-1 lead.
CCSU tacked on three more insurance runs in the ninth to improve to 6-1 this season against MAAC competition. Buddy Dewaine finished with three hits and two runs scored, while Matthews and Nolan each drove in a pair to pace the Blue Devils which have captured four of five all-time meetings in the series.
Zach Durfee (20 games),
Brian Kelly (18), and Kruzinski (13) each extended lengthy on-base streaks in the loss for the Saints.
Siena continues its stretch where it plays 14 of 17 at home when the Saints open an Easter Weekend series with doubleheader action vs. MAAC foe Quinnipiac on Good Friday at noon at Connors Park.
