Siena Women's Golf senior Sara Riso and sophomore Abigail Chai-Onn capped off impressive performances at the 2019 MAAC Championship by earning All-Championship Team Honors following the final round of play Saturday in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The pair allowed the Saints to improve one spot from last season and post their best team finish since 2016, taking fourth place overall.
Taking home the team title for the second straight year, the University at Albany finished 13 strokes ahead of the field on the weekend, shooting +63, 927. Hartford's Maria Loza capitalized on wavering play from the field down the stretch, shooting +3, 75 on the day to take home individual medalist honors with +10, 226.
Earning and All-Championship Team finish for the third straight season, Riso concluded her illustrious career in the Green and Gold by shooting +7, 79 on the day to finish +5, 231 on the weekend, tying Dayton's Abby Bitto for fourth place individually. Beginning the day tied with her co-captain, Chai Onn improved from a 12th place finish at the 2018 MAAC Championship, also shooting +7, 79 to land in a four-way split for 6th place with +16, 232.
Also improving her place from her freshman year, sophomore Grace Cuttone birdied the seventh hole of Disney's Magnolia Golf Course to wrap the day with +11, 83 and the weekend at +32, 248, good for 20th place. Senior Ashley Nguyen went +12, 84 on the day to conclude the tournament in 28th place with +41, 257. Concluding the Saints' five-women competition squad, freshman Lena Kaufman shot +18, 90 during her third go-around on the par-72, 6023-yard course to finish her first conference championship +54, 270, earning her 39th place.
In addition to a pair of All-Championship Team nods, Siena also saw four players earn All-Academic Team honors, its most since also having four honored in 2014. Riso earned the accolade for the third time in her career, while junior Marisa Fiorina took home All-Academic Team honors for the second time. Chai-Onn and Cuttone were each named to the squad for the first time in their time as Saints.
