Keenan Cook scored three goals and an assist for four points Tuesday night, coming just four points shy of 100 for his career. However despite Cook's effort, the Princeton Tigers would stop the Siena Saints by a final score of 19-10.
The Saints (5-5) were led by Cook, but supplemented by a three-point night from senior captain
Mike Reilly. Reilly would score twice, add an assist, and also lead the Saints in ground balls with six.
Dylan Pantalone also scored twice, while
Brendan Lantieri secured two points with a goal and assists.
Tyler Menniti and
Eric Munn each scored for the Green and Gold as well.
Princeton (5-6) was led by a six goal, five assist night from attackman Michael Sowers, totaling 11 points in the game. Chris Brown and Emmit Cordrey each added three point nights for the Tigers, as goalie Eric Peters made eight saves in net for the win.
Cook opened the game with a stunning goal from midfield, as he launched a ball from the midline into the net in the opening minute. That got Siena off to a 1-0 lead early. But it didn't take Princeton long after to get on the board courtesy of Sowers, as both sides traded goals until Princeton tied it at 3-3 with 4:33 to play in the first. That began a 5-0 run for the Tigers that ran into the second quarter.
With a goal from Alexander Vardaro at the 12:36 mark in the second, Princeton took a 7-3 lead. Five minutes later came the response from Siena, as Reilly scored at the 7:53 mark, and Cook scoring with 5:46 to play before the half. But, Princeton added a goal right before the halfway point to take an 8-5 lead after the first half.
The second half became all Princeton with some Green and Gold scores sprinkled in, as the Tigers outscored the Saints 11-5 in the final 30 minutes to take the win. Princeton would score a total of seven times in the fourth frame to secure the victory.
The Tigers outshot the Saints 29-18, and won the ground game just slightly by a margin of 40-37. Siena would be hampered by a seven penalty night, resulting in 5:30 of total penalty time.
The Saints return to the field on Saturday, April 13 for Senior Day at Hickey Field when they host NJIT. Opening faceoff is slated for 12 p.m.
