Saints Shine in Day One at MAAC Outdoor Track Championships

Randall Podiums, on Verge of NCAA Qualifying Time

The Siena College Saints made a statement on day one of the MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Monmouth University. The Green and Gold featured one podium winner, along with multiple qualifiers for finals on Sunday.
 
Making the podium in the men's was senior William Randall, finishing second in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:03.22. The senior now is knocking on the door of an NCAA qualifying time, sitting on the bubble in 50th, while the top 48 times go to the NCAA's. With the other top performance was junior Evans Kibet, who finished with the top time in the men's 800m run with a time of 1:51.04. Running out of heat 3, Kibet is the top seed for the 800m final on Sunday. Not to be outdone, senior Luciano Fiore came out flying with a time of 1:54.76, finishing as the fastest time in heat 1. Also qualifying in the men's 800 was Ryan Holland, who can a solid race and finished with the second fastest time in heat 1 behind Fiore.
 
In the men's 10K, Aidan Canavan ran an ECAC/Ic4A qualifying time of 31:23.26, also setting a new personal record for him in the event. Senior Jack O'Hara would also set a new personal record, doing so in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:34.23 behind Randall's performance in the event.
 
In the women's 1500m, senior Sarah Forman ran the third fastest time to qualify for the event's final on Sunday. Just missing the cut in the event was both Monica Strain and Carolyn Pellegrini with times of 4:39.40 and 4:42.40, as both of those times were PR's for each runner. Both Camryn and Sydney Johnson finished strong in the women's 10K, finishing fifth and sixth respectively with times of 37:55.18 and 38:09.97. Anya Schmitt ran an 11:18.29 in the 3000m steeplechase, setting a new PR. Rounding out the action for the day would be Olivia Durant with a 1:09.67 in the women's 400m dash, as well as Julia Bryant with a 2:25.38 in the women's 800m run.
 
The Saints return to the track tomorrow, May 5 when they dial in for Day 2 of the MAAC Championship. All the action can be seen on ESPN+.
