NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Winless on the road no more. Siena Basketball's elusive first road win of the season couldn't have come in more impressive fashion. The Saints broke through to post their biggest road win in a decade while saddling four-time defending MAAC Tournament Champion Iona its largest home defeat in 13 years in a decisive 87-64 victory over the Gaels at the Hynes Athletics Center.
A complete 40-minute team effort yielded a balanced scoring attack which featured seven double figure scorers for Siena (10-9, 6-4) who secured their most lopsided margin of victory on the road since an 80-54 triumph at Rider on Feb. 26, 2010.
Manny Camper posted his 10
th double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Saints who picked up their first road victory in 11 months since a 72-65 overtime triumph at Niagara in last year's regular season finale on Mar. 3, 2019.
E.J. Crawford scored a game-high 22 points for Iona (5-11, 3-6) who suffered their worst home defeat dating back to a 79-53 loss vs. Marist on Feb. 11, 2007. Isaiah Washington added 13 points for the Gaels who concluded a stretch where they played five of six at home.
Siena led throughout and by as much as a season-high 31 points as the road team prevailed for the 11
th time in the past 13 meetings between the programs. The Saints shot an even 50% from the field and held a commanding 42-24 rebounding advantage to remain in a three-way tie for second place in the MAAC Standings, and just a half game back of current co-frontrunners Monmouth and Quinnipiac at the midway point of the conference schedule.
Freshman
Jordan King led the septet of double figure scorers with a season-high 13 points on 5-7 shooting for Siena who has won three straight punctuated by back-to-back 23-point wins, matching the program's largest margin of victory since an 89-54 win over Manhattan on Dec. 4, 2015 in Albany. Classmate and fellow reserve
Kyle Young added 12 points and six rebounds for the Saints who received 31 bench points.
Siena led by double figures for the final 28 minutes and by 20 or more points for the final 12:44 in a game which was never in doubt. The Saints led by as many as 19 points in the first half and 45-29 at the break, thanks in large part to shooting 52% from the field while out-rebounding Iona by a commanding 23-9 margin.
Reigning MAAC Player of the Week
Jalen Pickett contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists,
Elijah Burns and
Gary Harris, Jr. each chipped in 11 points apiece, and
