It would be the Saints first victory over the Bobcats in 15 previous tries.
Siena was led by an 18-point performance from junior
Rayshel Brown, who went 8-for-12 from the field and added six rebounds. Senior
Sabrina Piper put in 12 points with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Sophomore
Amari Anthony scored 10 points hitting two threes and snagging five rebounds. Classmate Lala Watts continued her dominance in the paint with eight rebounds and four blocks.
Sophomore Lala Watts has now entered the Top 10 list for blocked shots in a single season. She is currently tied for fifth with
Maddie Sims at 46 for the season. Sims blocked 46 shots last season in 2018-19. In addition, Watts ranks first in the MAAC in blocked shots, currently averaging 2.2 blocks per game. She is the only play in the MAAC averaging over two blocks per game, as Rider's Amari Johnson ranks second with 33 total blocks and a 1.6 blocks per game average. Watts' 46 blocked shots rank 32nd in the NCAA, while her 2.2 blocks per game ranks 30th in the country.
In the series history, Siena and Rider will be squaring off for the 49th time on Thursday night, with the Saints holding a 33-15 advantage all-time. Head Coach
Ali Jaques stands eight wins away from passing Joe Hogan on Siena's all-time coaching wins list.
The last time these two teams met was back on Jan. 18. The Saints had opportunities to take the lead and tie late but fell just short against the MAAC frontrunner. The Green and Gold would push the Broncs to the brink, falling by a final of 70-66 in Lawrenceville, as senior
Sabrina Piper led the Saints with a 22-point performance.
Piper also added eight rebounds and three assists to her resume for the night. Junior
Rayshel Brown put up a 17-point night on 7-for-14 shooting from the field, and also three assists. Sophomore
Margo Peterson scored into double figures, scoring 11 points and tying a career-high with six rebounds. Siena's loss to Rider was their last loss before starting their current five-game winning streak.
