Siena Baseball concluded action at the four-game South Alabama Invitational with a pair of defeats Sunday afternoon in Mobile. Indiana bested the Saints 12-3 to open the day, while the host Jaguars posted an 8-2 triumph in the nightcap.
Game One: Indiana 12, Siena 3
Indiana (4-2) scored 12 runs on the benefit of just six hits as they made their most of their 14 walks.
The Hoosiers opened the scoring with five runs in the third and added four more in the fourth to cruise to victory. Collin Hopkins delivered a two-run double in the third, and Elijah Dunham added a three-run homer in the fourth to highlight the scoring.
Siena (0-8) scored all three of its runs in the eighth, punctuated by a pinch-hit two-run double by freshman
Donovan Montgomery.
Braydon Tucker tossed five shutout innings scattering three hits to secure the win for Indiana.
Game Two: South Alabama 8, Siena 2
South Alabama (4-5) erupted for seven runs over the first two innings to take the night cap. The Jaguars amassed eight of their 11 hits over the first two innings.
Freshman
Bryce Mordecki connected for his first collegiate homer in the seventh, and
Davis Zerr worked a bases loaded walk in the ninth to account for the Saints' two runs. Siena received strong contributions from its bullpen, as five relievers combined to allow just one unearned run on four hits over the final 6.2 innings.
Andy Arguelles struck out six over five shutout innings to earn the win for South Alabama.
The Saints return to action next weekend with a four-game series at Eastern Kentucky. Play gets underway Friday at 4 p.m. in Richmond, Kentucky.
