NEW YORK, NY – Siena's Men's & Women's Indoor Track teams each took home eighth place at the 2020 MAAC Indoor Track Championships after rounding out competition at the New Balance Armory & Track in New York City, Sunday evening.
The Green and Gold took part in eight final races, with the men's team finishing with 12 total points and the women with 25. Rider bested Quinnipiac by half a point to claim the 2020 MAAC Women's Indoor Track championship, while the Monmouth men's team cruised to its third straight title.
Looking to build off of a record-breaking performance in day one which saw senior Carolyn Pellegrini set the program mark in the women's indoor 5000-meter run, day two's action began with the men's an women's mile run. Freshman Matthew LaFramboise represented the men by placing 9th (4:29.24), while junior Monica Strain (5:14.00) finished 10th on the women's end.
The Saints later took the track for the running of the 3000-meter race. Freshmen Brandon Olden (8:39.62) and Aidan Gillooley 8:44.37) paced the men in the event, finishing 10th and 13th, respectively. Sophomore Olivia Lomascolo carved out Siena's top finish of the day on either end in the women's 3000, placing fifth overall with a time of 10:01.63.
Siena then competed in a pair of relays on each end to close out its fifth straight and sixth overall year competing at the MAAC Indoor Championships. The men's group of senior Michael Stoker, juniors Ryan Holland & Jacob Greski and freshman Ryan Famiglietti took sixth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:57.07, while the women's pairing of Pellegrini, juniors Holly Bednarek & Allison Hill and sophomore Julia Bryant finished seventh with a mark of 9:34.93. Senior Matt Jacques, junior Chris Estremera and freshmen LaFramboise & Nathan Poirier represented the Saints with a seventh-place finish in the 4x400 (3:36.32), while women's senior Anya Schmitt, juniors Olivia Durant & Morgan Serkes and sophomore Shannon Bergin also took seventh with a time of 4:28.89.
Siena will conclude its indoor track campaign by sending three individuals and a relay to the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track Championships in Boston, Massachusetts March 7-8. The Saints will then prepare for outdoor track season, which will begin at the Black & Gold Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island March 27-28.
