Siena Baseball came out on the wrong side of a pair of pitcher's duels Saturday, dropping series-opening doubleheader action at Davidson 2-0 and 6-1.
Game One: Davidson 2, Siena 0
Ben Seiler tossed six strong innings, but Siena (0-14) managed to get only two runners as far as third as Davidson (11-3) shutout the Saints in the series opener. Seiler struck out four in an efficient performance, while
Arlo Marynczak added two scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.
The Wildcats opened the scoring on a Matthew Gravely RBI single in the fifth, before tacking on an insurance run on a Henry Koehler sacrifice fly in the following inning.
Siena had its best chance to break through in the eighth loading the bases with just one out, but couldn't cash in.
Pat O'Hare was on base three times for the Saints, highlighted by a pair of hits.
Gaby Levy fell one out shy of a complete game, scattering five hits and walking three while striking out five to earn the win for Davidson.
Game Two: Davidson 6, Siena 1
The Wildcats scored six unanswered runs punctuated by a four-run fifth to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Siena jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the opening inning on a
Jonathan Crimmin sac fly to plate
Devan Kruzinski. Kruzinski walked twice, while six other Saints each recorded single hits.
But Ruben Fontes tied the game with a solo home run to lead off the fourth, and Davidson batted around during the decisive fifth to take the win. The Wildcats recorded six of their eight hits in the frame.
Blake Hely and Nolan Devos combined to scatter six hits and struck out 11 to earn the win and save, respectively.
The squads wrap up their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
