Siena looks to avoid going 0-3 to start a campaign for the third time in the last four seasons, and will aim to improve from two close losses in its opening week of play. The Green and Gold opened the 48th season in program history with a 59-55 loss at Binghamton on November 9, and fell, 50-42 at sister school St. Bonaventure two days later. Fifth year guard Rayshel Brown led the team in scoring in both games with 16 and 14 points, respectively, while the team's 48 rebounds in the loss to the Bearcats were its most in a contest since March 10, 2020.

Alongside Brown's leading performances during the first two contests of the year, senior Amari Anthony added 12 points in the season opener while classmate Margo Peterson dropped a new career high in rebounds with nine and nine for her closest brush with a double-double. Junior transfer Anja Knoflach put forth meaningful minutes off the bench in the loss to the Bonnies, scoring 12 points in 28 minutes for her first double-digit scoring output in the Green and Gold.

Siena and Lafayette will meet for the first time ever as part of two first-time foes on the schedule for the Saints, with North Dakota set to come to Loudonville on November 30. Siena will have now played all 10 current members within the Patriot League, with fellow conference member Colgate on the schedule for December 2 at home. Siena will look to end a three-game losing skid in the state of Pennsylvania, with it's last win in the Keystone State coming at Drexel on November 28, 2007.

Picked to finish eighth out of 10 teams in its conference in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches' Poll, Lafayette enters Saturday also in search of its first win of the season, having fell on the road to Pittsburgh and common opponent Duquesne before opening home play with a 72-59 falter against Columbia on Thursday. Sophomore guard Mikayla Andrews leads the team in scoring through three games (13.3) after going in double-figure scoring in each contest this far, while senior Makaila Wilson is averaging 10 boards per-contest, with double-digit rebounds during each of the last two games. The Leopards compiled a 5-8 mark last season, falling to Boston University in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.
