Men’s Soccer Hosts Monmouth to Close Regular Season (WATCH)

Siena will Look to Gain Momentum Heading into MAAC Tournament

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Currently on a three-match unbeaten streak and having already locked up a berth in the MAAC Tournament for the second straight season, Siena Men's Soccer (8-6-3, 4-3-2) will look to round out regular season play on a high note. The Saints are set to host defending MAAC Champion Monmouth (7-7-2, 5-4-0) at Hickey Field on Wednesday, November 3, with the match airing live on Siena All-Access.

Rounding out the regular season with three of its final four matches in Loudonville, the Saints played current MAAC leader Marist to a scoreless draw on October 23, and have won two matches since, outscoring Canisius and Rider by a total of 7-1 last week. Siena routed the Golden Griffins at home, 5-1, last Wednesday for its best scoring performance since 2014. The team carried momentum to Lawrenceville, New Jersey on Saturday, defeating Rider, 2-0 for its fifth shutout of the year. Four goals in the second half of Wednesday's win was the most in a single half since 2010, while Saturday's result marked the most shutouts in a single campaign since 2015.

After advancing to the MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals during the Spring 2021 season, Siena used its most recent victory to lock up back-to-back MAAC Tournament berths for the first time since the 2015 & 2016 seasons. Depending on the results of the final day of regular season action across the MAAC, the Saints could mathematically land as high as the number 2 seed, or as low as the number 8 seed. The 2021 MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals will be held on Sunday, November 7, with the top four seeds in the field playing host to the bottom four.

Siena took home its fifth MAAC Weekly honor of the season this past week, with leading scorer Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen winning MAAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year, following high first collegiate multi-goal performance in the win over Canisius. The Denmark native boasts five goals and six assists on the year, with 16 points the most scored by a freshman in a single season since 2017. The saints boast 16 different point scorers, with sophomore Bilal Hersi also holding five goals, and fifth year Jacob Pacheco having scored in back-to-back games entering Wednesday. Senior goalkeeper Greg Monroe currently ranks second in program history in minutes played, second in matches played (60), tied for third in both career wins (19) and shutouts (10), and fifth in saves (278).

Looking to prepare to defend its conference title, Monmouth enters the final game of the year on a four-game losing skid, having lost to Marist (1-0), Quinnipiac (2-1), Manhattan (2-1), and Niagara (2-0) over the last two weeks. The Hawks hold 15 points in conference play, and can also potentially land as high as second or as low as eighth. Junior forward Ben Zakowski leads the team in scoring with five goals and five assists, while classmate Julian Gomes also hold five goals and goalkeeper Sean Murray holds a 1.07 goals-against-average with 60 saves this season.

Monmouth holds a 4-2-4 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 2013 upon its entrance into the MAAC. The teams played to a scoreless draw on March 28, 2021 at Hickey Field, with three of the last five matches in the series going to double overtime. Siena is 3-0-2 all-time at home against the Hawks, including a 3-1 shootout win on November 5, 2016 during the Saints' first-ever postseason home match in the MAAC Quarterfinals.

The match will air live on Siena All-Access, with Alex Feuz calling play-by-play and Casey Garcia handling color commentary. Continuous in-game sideline updates will be provided via the men's soccer team's official twitter page @SienaSoccer.
