Men’s Tennis Hosts Home Opener Against Boston College

Saints Host Golden Eagles to Open 2021 Home Slate

LATHAM, NY – Siena Men's Tennis is back at Tri-City Fitness in Latham for the first time this season, as they get set to take on the Boston College Golden Eagles starting at 6:15 p.m.

Siena opened their season with a come-from-behind win over the Merrimack Warriors by a final score of 4-3. Despite a win from Mendoza and freshman Somo Yokoyama at #3 doubles by a score of 6-4, the Saints would drop the first two courts to go into an early 1-0 deficit. Both Tomas del Olmo and Guillermo Lopez Torres would also each fall at #1 and #2 singles while sophomore Matt Nardone got the Saints on the board to make things 3-1.

From there, freshman Darek Kuczynski won his court at #3 singles by a score of 7-6 (4), 6-1. With the win getting Siena within a point, Yokoyama would pick up where he left off in doubles and take a win at #6 singles 6-2, 6-4. With the match now tied 3-3, Mendoza would pick up the clinching point in straight sets at #5 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-3.

Boston College comes into the match with an 1-6 record so far on the season, with their lone win coming over Merrimack as well. The match will be the Golden Eagles final dual match before they start ACC play.

After today's match, the Saints will begin conference play as well with a matchup at Marist next Saturday, Apr. 3.
