LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Baseball split its series-opening doubleheader with Manhattan in their return to Connors Park. The Saints prevailed 12-4 in the series-opening seven-inning affair, while the Jaspers won 11-0 via mercy rule in seven innings in the nightcap.
Game 1: Siena 12, Manhattan 4 (7)
Freshmen
Kobe Stenson and
Connor Bovair propelled Siena (6-12) to its fourth Game One win in five series. Stenson capped a decisive eight-run third with a grand slam, while Bovair went the distance while racking up five strikeouts to secure his second win.
The home half of the third inning was the difference as the Saints sent 11 men to the plate. Stenson scored two of his three runs in the wild half inning which featured only three Siena hits, but five walks and a Manhattan (4-12) error.
Siena pounded out 12 hits in total with
Jake Hall,
Devan Kruzinski,
Ryan McGee,
Evan St. Claire and Stenson each recording two apiece. St. Claire knocked in a pair of runs as did
Bryce Mordecki on the strength of a two-run homer in the sixth.
Game 2: Manhattan 11, Siena 0 (7)
Manhattan erupted for 10 of its 11 runs over the final three innings to take the second game via mercy rule in seven innings. The Jaspers tallied 11 hits while also working seven walks and four hit batsmen.
Manhattan extended a 1-0 lead through four with three solo home runs by Jake Knop, Jonathan Barditch, and Nick Cimillo in the fifth. The Jaspers finished off the contest with a five-run seventh in which a pair of runs were forced home with the bases loaded on a walk and hit batsman.
Jack Mahoney pitched a two-hit complete game shutout for Manhattan, walking five and striking out seven.
Donovan Montgomery and
Bryce Porter accounted for the Siena hits.
The teams wrap up their weekend series Sunday with doubleheader action starting at noon.
