Men’s Lacrosse Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime to Manhattan

Saints Force Overtime Late in Loss to Jaspers

The Siena Men's Lacrosse team dropped another close game on the 2021 spring season on Saturday afternoon, as the Saints would fall 13-12 in overtime to the Manhattan Jaspers.

The Saints were led by a five-point day from senior Jack Kiernan, with all five coming on goals. Fifth year Dylan Pantalone added four points with three goals and an assist. Sophomore Colin Gleason was the other Saint with a multi-point effort, scoring both a goal and an assist. Goaltender Christopher Yanchoris would make 17 total saves in the loss.

Manhattan saw Sean MacKinney equal Kiernan with a five-point day as he put up three goals and a pair of assists. Jake Nicolosi would add a hat trick of his own, while Liam Walshe would also add three points with two goals and an assist. Three other Jaspers finished with two points, as Brendan Krebs would make 15 saves in the cage.

Siena would start things off strong with an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Jack Cheney and Kiernan. Manhattan would respond with a goal by the end of the first, as the second would come with a ton of scoring. Manhattan would keep their scoring streak going and take a 3-2 lead just three minutes into the second quarter. The Saints would respond with a pair courtesy of Van Schepen and Pantalone before Manhattan closed the half with a scoring streak to lead 7-4. But Kiernan had the last say, scoring with seven seconds to play to make it 7-5 into the half.

The Jaspers continued to hold a multi-goal lead through the third, as the Saints briefly pulled within one after a goal from Christian Watts at the 7:28. But headed into the fourth quarter, Manhattan would hold a 12-9 lead.

The Green and Gold would play solid defense in the fourth, as Yanchoris came up with some big saves to hold Manhattan off the board. Slowly but surely, the Saints chipped away at the lead as Kiernan scored twice and pulled Siena within a goal with 9:58 to play. With the ball on a man up opportunity with 30 seconds to play, the sophomore Gleason would step into a shot and score to tie the game up at 12-all, sending things to overtime.

In the extra frame, both sides played even through the first four minutes. It seemed that might be the case once more time, but Manhattan would score with 27 seconds to play in the second overtime to take the win.

The Saints return to action for their final regular season game of the season as they head to Olean to take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Saturday, Apr. 24 at 4 p.m.
