Young, Guns Propel Saints to Doubleheader Sweep of Saint Peter’s

Young, Hurlers Bovair and McCully Register Career Performances

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Brett Young reached base safely in each of his first eight Siena plate appearances, while Connor Bovair and Mike McCully combined to strike out 23 batters over 14 innings as Siena Baseball outscored Saint Peter's by a combined 18-1 margin in a series-opening doubleheader sweep at Connors Park. The Saints won the opener 8-1, and walked off via mercy rule 10-0 in the nightcap.

Game 1: Siena 8, Saint Peter's 1 (7)
Bovair recorded 17 of 21 outs via strikeout as Siena (8-16) rolled past Saint Peter's (2-10) in Game One. Bovair went the distance scattering four hits and one run while striking out a career-high 17 batters.

Bovair's 17 strikeouts are tied for the most nationally by a pitcher in a seven-inning game so far this season, and tied for the second most overall. The freshman struck out seven straight midway through his masterful performance, and carried a no-hitter through the first 4.2 innings to earn his third win this spring.

Meanwhile Young was one of three Saints to recorded two hits apiece to pace the offense. Making his Siena debut, the VCU transfer reached base in all four plate appearances. The Saints put away the Peacocks with a four-run sixth highlighted by a two-run double from Pat O'Hare.

Game 2: Siena 10, Saint Peter's 0 (7)
Siena scored three in the first and struck for four in the home half of the seventh to walk-off via mercy rule and complete the series-opening sweep. Young again led the way going a perfect 3-3 with a homer and a pair of RBI to pace a 12-hit attack.

Donovan Montgomery also homered, knocked in three runs, and was on base four times for the Saints, while Ryan McGee added a pair of hits including the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

The offensive surge was more than enough for McCully who went the distance to spin the complete game shutout. He scattered five hits and walked three while striking out six to notch his second victory.

Siena will look to wrap up the series victory Saturday. Doubleheader action starts at noon, immediately following the Senior Day ceremony honoring the team's senior class.
