Eight teams will compete for the MAAC title starting with the quarterfinal round. Fairfield hosts Marist, the Saints host Canisius, Monmouth hosts Monmouth, and Niagara hosts Quinnipiac. With the current bracket setup, the Saints could potentially face their same three opponents (Canisius, Monmouth, Fairfield) that they did in their run to the championship round in 2019.
Saturday will be the 27th meeting between the two MAAC programs. Canisius leads the all-time series with a 16-10 mark against the Saints. The two programs met twice during the opening weekend of the 2021 campaign, with Siena taking both contests. This weekend will be the fourth all-time postseason matchup, with the Griffs leading 2-1. Canisius earned postseason victories over Siena in 2011 and in 2013 before falling to the Saints in the opening round of the 2019 tournament by the score of 16-12.
The Siena Women's Lacrosse team was honored with seven individual accolades, highlighted by four First Team All-MAAC selections and head coach
Abigail Rehfuss, who was named the 2021 BSN MAAC Coach of the Year earlier this week.
Earning first team honors for the Saints was seniors
Kerry Gerety (midfield) and
Emily Pomeroy (defense), redshirt junior
Kaitlyn Dowsett (attack), and junior
Mary Soures (midfield). Receiving All-MAAC Second Team honors was senior
Emily Fiorillo (defense), while freshman
Laura Bonomo (midfield) earned All-Rookie honors.
Rehfuss earns her first Coach of the Year award after a 9-2 regular season for the Saints. She is only the third coach in program history to earn the honor, following Jake McHerron (2004) and Andrea Duffy (2010). Siena enters the postseason on a six-game winning streak, having defeated both Fairfield and Monmouth, the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds in the upcoming championship.
In addition to the accolades, the Saints had a new program-record 21 student athletes make the MAAC All-Academic Team –
Alexis Bower,
Annie Brennan,
Alison Carr,
Jenna Colabufo, Dowsett,
Hannah Field, Fiorillo, Gerety,
Hayley Kmack,
Sabrina Krasner,
Haylee Kuprianchik,
Kelsey Lane,
Kendra MacCaull,
Nicole McNeely,

The last time these two teams met back on Mar. 7, senior
Kerry Gerety and junior
Mary Soures each stood out among a 17-8 final score, as the pair each helped the Siena Women's Lacrosse team to their first 2-0 start since 2016 as they defeated the Golden Griffins.
Gerety became the all-time leader in career draw controls with a draw control to open the second half. She eclipses Julia Sirianni's career mark of 227 draw controls, getting her the top spot as she finished with 12 total draw controls on the game. She also added a goal and an assist to her stat line. The big offensive output came from junior
Mary Soures, as she scored seven goals and an assist for eight total points and a team-high five ground balls. Redshirt junior
Kaitlyn Dowsett notched three goals and three assists for a total of six points.
Canisius enters the tournament as the seventh seed and an 2-7 overall record. Riley Lucarelli and freshman Riley Davis were named to the 2021 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Teams. A defender from Lancaster, N.Y., Lucarelli is one of five defenders on the All-MAAC First Team. Lucarelli, who started the 2021 campaign as a Preseason All-MAAC honoree, also earned All-MAAC Second Team honors following the 2019 season. One of two unanimous choices to the 2021 MAAC All-Rookie Team, Davis leads the Griffs with 18 goals on the year, and she ranks second on the roster with 22 points.
Current milestones in play for the Saints are a potential 100 career point from junior
Mary Soures, who currently stands at 97. Senior
Kerry Gerety is also six assists away from becoming the program's all-time leader in assists.
