Siena Baseball dropped its final two regular season contests Wednesday afternoon, falling in doubleheader action at Marist. The Red Foxes took the opener 13-6 in seven innings and claimed the nightcap 10-2.
Game 1: Marist 13, Siena 6 (7)
Marist (15-7) scored 13 unanswered runs capped by a 10-run fifth to pull away in the opener. Matt Rubayo homered twice during the decisive inning, knocking in five runs in the frame.
Siena (14-22) had claimed a 2-0 lead in the third on back-to-back RBI hits by
Kobe Stenson and
Brett Young. The Saints added a run in the sixth on a Young homer, and batted around in their final at-bat to scratch across three runs in the seventh.
Game 2: Marist 10, Siena 2
The Red Foxes scored four times apiece in the first and second innings to complete both the doubleheader and season series sweep, while also leapfrogging Siena in the standings. Robbie Armitage hit two-run homers in both the first and second innings to lead the way for Marist.
The Saints scored both of their runs in the third on a two-run single from
Jake Hall.
Devan Kruzinski and
Pat O'Hare each contributed a pair of hits apiece in the contest.
Jayden Metz tossed 5.2 solid relief innings for Siena, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out three.
The Saints now shift their focus to this year's eight-team MAAC Tournament. Best-of-three quarterfinal round action is scheduled to begin later next week, with the higher seeded teams hosting each matchup. Siena's quarterfinal matchup, dates, and times, will be confirmed following the conclusion of regular season action this weekend.
